The type of ring we are thinking of getting. Going to several shops later to enquire about possibility of customizing.

This is a dated post. Forgot about all the details already. zzz... especially ever since we have got our house.

Just publishing here for record sake.

Toilets must always be renovated!

I don't like this kind of grills

Mounted wall fans - not our kind as well

If we can, we will maximize the space by getting an inbuilt cupboard from IKEA

Does seem quite a lot of space isn't it?

We would like a more open concept for the kitchen

Wedding Festival @ Suntec: 19 - 21 Feb 2010

Our experience as follows.... (groom in green, bride in blue)

We went to the bridal fair on Sunday (20th Feb) and was quite traumatised by the way some of the bridal studios tried to persuade us to go to their booths. We priortised what we wanted - an ala carte kind of package, which means we wanted something that does not include a photoshoot.

Over the weekend, we decided to take a peak at the Wedding Festival at Suntec City. Due to our conflicting schedules, such a show is a rare chance so off we went.

The very first impression we had when we stepped into level 3 is that they were extremely pushy. It was as though we were bait for sharks and they keep coming onto us, trying to get us to sit down and view their photographs and talk to them. Perhaps it was because it was late and there were only a few customers left so we had the "privilege" of so much attention.

I must admit that I wanted to run off asap because there was a lot of pressure. I was quite pissed as well. Addy wanted to look at some of the portfolios to get more ideas of the dresses so we'd better not waste the chance.

Sattine
We went over to Sattine and had quite a good impression of them. They are not very pushy and the chief photographer Kenny was able to capture our interest. Personally, I was quite attracted to the gowns and liked one EG very much! It was yellow and had another pink outer veil material on the outside - a mixture of two colours.. thought it suited our theme as well - cute and childlike :P

Kenny from Sattine was nice and his recommendation was really non-obligatory. Didn't use tactics like emotional blackmail and stuff. It is sales people like that will make me consider going back at all.

Guys like me will think more of whether there is value in the packages. Well, Sattin's package does seem quite reasonable given that they throw in like the ROM portion and suits for the dad's etc. Their range of off-the-rack gowns seem quite good as well. Well, now we just have to decide whether to pay a bit more and go for customized or just do the off-the-rack thing.

Yes, the yellow evening gown with the pink organza overlay is really nice!

WhiteLink
We also went over to Whitelink. But since they did not have any ala carte packages, we did not stay long. Quite a few overseas locations for photoshoots though. Locations include Korea and Krabi.

Whitelink was ok only. When they heard that we got our photography package, their interest level dipped. Probably it was my black face that resulted in their reaction as well.

Overall, we think wedding fairs are the best place to go only after you have decided roughly which boutiques you would like to sign up with. Main considerations are cost, expertise and designs. Wedding fairs often resort to hard sell tactics and make you sign up on the spot with their offers. If you have decided roughly what you want, you can drive a harder bargain at the wedding fairs.

This blog post is inspired and based on the following webpage and link:
Beau-Coup - Fine Favours, Stylish Giving.

We were clueless on what type of wedding gowns and the fabrics used to make them. As we were deciding to customize our gowns, we thought reading up would at least give us a better idea.

For the text below, we obtained the content from the above website and added search links to the different materials for a better idea.

Fabrics

  • Batiste: A lightweight, soft, transparent fabric.
  • Charmeuse: A lightweight, semi-lustrous soft fabric, that is satin-like to the touch.
  • Chiffon: Delicate, sheer, and transparent—made from silk or rayon, with a soft finish; often layered because of its transparency, making it popular for overskirts, sheer sleeves, and wraps.
  • Crepe: A light, soft, and thin fabric with a crinkled surface.
  • Damask: Similar to brocade with raised designs, but woven in a much lighter weight.
  • Duchesse Satin: A lightweight hybrid of silk and rayon (or polyester) woven into a satin finish.
  • Dupioni: A finish similar to shantung, but with thicker, coarser fibers, and a slight sheen.
  • Faille: A structured, ribbed finish like grosgrain ribbon; usually quite substantial.
  • Gabardine: A tightly-woven, firm and durable finish, with single diagonal lines on the face.
  • Georgette: A sheer, lightweight fabric often made of polyester or silk with a crepe surface.
  • Illusion: A fine, sheer net fabric, generally used on sleeves or necklines.
  • Jersey: A very elastic knit fabric; the face has lengthwise ribs and the underside has crosswise ribs.
  • Moire: A heavy silk taffeta with a subtle, wavy design.
  • Organdy: A stiff transparent fabric.
  • Organza: Crisp and sheer like chiffon, with a stiffer texture similar in effect to tulle, but more flowing; popular for skirts, sleeves, backs, and overlays.
  • Peau de Soie: A soft satin-faced, high-quality cloth with a dull luster, fine ribs, and a grainy appearance.
  • Pique: A lengthwise rib weave in medium to heavy weights; wrinkles badly unless given a wrinkle-free finish.
  • Satin: A heavy, smooth fabric with a high sheen on one side; very common in bridal gowns.
  • Silk Gazar: A four-ply silk organza.
  • Silk Mikado: A brand of blended silk, usually heavier than 100-percent silk.
  • Silk-faced Satin: A smooth silk satin, with a glossy front and matte back.
  • Shantung: Similar to a raw silk, shantung is characterized by its slubbed texture.
  • Taffeta: Crisp and smooth, with a slight rib; not frequently used.
  • Tulle: Netting made of silk, nylon, or rayon; used primarily for skirts and veils (think ballerina tutus).
  • Velvet: A soft, thick fabric with a felted face and plain underside.

Fibers

  • Polyester: An inexpensive man-made fabric that can be woven into just about anything, including duchesse satin
  • Rayon: Similar to silk, but more elastic and affordable.
  • Silk: The most sought-after, cherished fiber for wedding dresses (and also the most expensive); there are several types with different textures: raw silk and silk mikado are just two examples.

Lace

  • Alencon: Probably the most popular type of lace for weddings, with a background of flowers and swags.
  • Chantilly: Features flowers and ribbons on a plain net background.
  • Duchesse: An irregularly spaced lace of floral design with a lot of raised work.
  • Guipure: A large series of motifs connected by a few threads.
  • Ribbon: A random pattern of ribbon sewn over a net background.
  • Schiffli: Lightweight, with an all-over delicate embroidered design.
  • Spanish: Designed with flat roses on a net background.
  • Venise: A heavy needlepoint-type design with floral sprays, foliage, or geometric patterns

Taiwan Wedding Photo Shoot Arrangements - Email Correspondence

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - SEPTEMBER 08: Romanian pri...Image by Getty Images via Daylife
With the photoshoot looming near, we are gearing up on our preparations. The first step is to settle our travel plans first. I am still waiting for my ticket balloting before we can go ahead and buy Addy's ticket to Taipei. Heh. Once we are registered, we won't have that problem anymore.

In the meantime, we have written an email to the Taiwanese photo studio people on the themes we would like to see in our photoshoot. It's still quite hazy at the moment because we do not really know what is nice at Taiwan. But for ourselves, we have already set the kind of feel we would like to have - a more childlike, innocent and cute kind of photos. The "fun fun kind", yes.

We think it is important to know what we want before we go ahead. The below is subject to further refining later on too, after considering their inputs too.

Writing in Chinese is a chore but the below is our email to them for future referencing. Hope it paints an overarching idea of what we want. Leave comments if you could too!

*We acknowledge the photos taken from other websites for samples. Some of them are really good like Allen Hsu and Jose Paula.
