Lady (Mary Campbell) RuthvenImage by George Eastman House via FlickrThe Mother wanted to get a confinement lady fast or else "all the good ones will be taken already".

I really bought this reason until I reflected and realised that whether you are 3 months pregnant or 9 months pregnant, it doesn't alter the chance of getting of a good confinement lady. Either way, the good ones are likely to be taken up because the 8-monther could have also called earlier and booked her too.

ANYWAYZ, it was good to get it out of our way but looking for one fast. We got some tips from the Singapore Motherhood forum (why no Singapore Fatherhood ah?? and this particular thread was useful.

We were struggling with choosing one because we did not know what we would need in the first place. Just some things one may need to consider:
  1. Privacy (the overnighter?)
  2. Cost
  3. Experience (feeding, bathing, cooking)
  4. Committed to what level of care (will she do the cooking and even housework?)
  5. Singaporean or not
Kenny's blogpost on Questions to Ask a Confinement Lady is useful. We even printed it out for our use when we met our confinement lady.

Will put details of our meeting with the confinement lady up next!
